The grand sports tourism cycling event, Tour de Singkarak 2014 is officially launched on Friday 9th May 2014 at the Balairung Soesilo Sudarman Ballroom, Sapta Pesona Building, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. The grand launching ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Toursim and Creative Economy, Sapta Nirwandar; the Vice Governor of West Sumatra, Muslim Kasim; and also 18 regents and mayors of all the cities in West Sumatra who were also accompanied by the heads of the tourism offices.

The grand launching of the international scaled event signified the readiness of all the cooperating parties in staging the annual international event that perfectly combines sports and tourism. Tour de Singkarak (TdS) 2014 is scheduled to be held from 7th to 15th June 2014 and featuring 9 stages in 9 days. This year, the race will cover a longer total distance of 1.250km across 18 regencies.
This year, 20 teams will be competing in the event which includes 2 Top Pro Continental Teams from 21 countries, 14 Continental/National Teams, and 4 Indonesian Teams who will be competing for the total prize awards of IDR1.3 billion. With the continuously increasing prize nominal, Tour de Singkarak has not been only an evaluation media for the competing athletes but also placed itself as one of the major cycling events in the world.
This year’s Tour de Singkarak is expected to be a special one, since three champions from three different years of Tour de Singkarak will compete against each others. A fierce race among the winner of TdS 2012, Oscar Pujol Munoz, the winner of TdS 2011, Amir Zargari, and the return of Ghader Mizbani Iranagh who wins the TdS of 2009,2010, and 2013, is surely something to watch for. The three riders has placed their names in many international cycling events, and now there are here to compete in Tour de Singkarak 2014.

Over the years, the event received positive response from around the world and was also acknowledged by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as an official international bicycle competition in their Calendar of Events. Tour de Singkarak also recognized as one of the most observed international cycling competition since in every occasions it always attract a large numbers of journalist from various media all over the globe.

In this 6th edition of Tour de Singkarak, Padang Pariaman will be the grand start location, while the capital city of West Sumatra, Padang, act as the finish location. During the closing ceremony in Padang simultaneously the Tour de Singkarak 2015 which will be held on 15th March 2015 will be launched and city hosting the grand start will be announced.

The Vice Governor of West Sumatra, Muslim Kasim stated that the rapid development of Tour de Singkarak from its inaugural year to the present has given significant impacts towards many sectors in the province. Tour de Singkarak has proven to be a strategic media to promote West Sumatra and Indonesia and also to improve the local people’s welfare.
