Local Currency
The United States Dollar (USD) is the local currency although $1 notes are not accepted. Timor-Leste centavo coins which also used alongside United States dollar banknotes. These coins come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 and 200 centavos, where 1 centavos = 1 U.S. cent

Major currencies can be exchanged for US$ at local banks and a few money changers.
ATMs
These are widely available in the Dili and in the main towns at banks and some supermarkets.
Credit Card Use
Visa and Mastercard credit cards are accepted but limited to major businesses, so it is recommended that you take sufficient US$ cash with you, especially when travelling outside Dili Municipality.
