After having successfully organized the “Green House Design” Competition in 2012 and the “Nusantara Cultural House Design” Competition in 2013, PT. Propan Raya Inc. in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, theGreen Building Council Indonesia, and INIAS Resources Center will present the 2nd Nusantara Architect Competition.

This year, the competition carries the theme: Green Nusantara (Indonesian Archipelago) Village Design which is in line with the program of the Ministry of Tourism to develop tourist villages in a variety of potential partsthroughout the archipelago.

Architectural insights have a significant role in providing added value for tourism in terms of enriching the aesthetics and constructional elements of facilities such as hotels, resorts, museums, and galleries. Following the program of  the Ministry of Tourism to develop 16 National Tourism Strategic Regions, the creative ideas of architects are expected to give significant contribution to the development of those regions.

Through these competitions, architects are challenged to create iconic designs that apply the latest modern trends and requirements but which at the same time preserve the unique features of indigenous cultures, since preserving cultures does not always mean avoiding modernization. This is the principle which will be carried out in thedesigns of  homestays in this competition.

The competition features several tourist villages to develop, which are: the Tumori Village oNias Island, Sembalun Lawang in West Nusa Tenggara, Sesean Matallo Village in South Sulawesi, and Messah VillageoKomodo Island.

Criteria for judging will include indigenous content, environmental awareness, aesthetics, technical feasibility, economic feasibility, marketing considerations, and business sustainability.

Aside from awarded with millions of Rupiahs in cash prizes, the winners and nominees will also have their designs published in the “Nusantara Tourism Village Architectural Design Exploration” Book will be included ona special website.
