To commemoratee Indonesia’s Independence Day anniversary which falls on 17th August, the Annual Independence Day Golf Invitational Tournament 2014 will be held at the Pondok Indah Golf Course, Jakarta, from 14th to 17th August 2014.

The tournament will see competing 17 national rising golf stars (9 pros and 8 amateurs) which are the digits chosen to represent the date of -ndonesia’s Independence Day and the annual golf tournament itself. Among the 17 competing golfers, only 8 will enter the final round, a number which also represents the month of August, the month of Independence Day.

Total Cash Prize for the tournament will also be in concurrence with the age of Indonesia’s Independence which is IDR69million to represent the 69th years since Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence on 17 August 1945.

Among professional athelets who will compete in the tournament are George Gandranata (the top rank of Professional Golf Tour Indonesia/PGTI), Putra Abhinawa Sahari, Ian Andrew, RInaldi Adiyandono, Jordan Irawan, Benny Kasiadi, Fajar Win Nuryanto, Hendry Nasim, and Bramantiyo Adhi.

At a Press Conference carrying the theme: “‘Building the Future, 17 National Rising Golf Stars – Competing To Be The Best”, Peter Gontha, one of the initiators of the event said that he felt challenged to stage tournaments that can generate many national golf champions.

On his part, George Gandranata expressed his appreciation of the tournament, commenting that the event will be an incentive for amateur golfers to grow and be able to participate in international sporting events such as the SEAGames.

The tournament is expected to generate more talented golf athletes, increase sport passion among young golfers, improve the general golf quality, at the same time boost the tourism industry in the country.
