Indonesia was chosen as venue for the 38th Conseil International Du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Military Parachuting Championship 2014 that will take place in Solo, Central Java Province, from 17th to 28th September 2014.

This international military sporting event will be hosted by the Military Sport Committee of the Indonesian National Defense Force that forms part of the Conseil International Du Sport Militaire (CISM) or the International Military Sports Council’s agenda.

The global military parachuting tournament will involve participation of over 60 countries of the 134 member countries of the International Military Sport Council (CISM). The Parachuting Tournament has also invited delegates from 11 countries as observers including: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Hongkong, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, and Singapore.

The 38th World Military Parachuting Championship will follow the CISM Regulations and CISM Parachuting Regulations (2014 edition) and will compete a number of categories including Accuracy, Formation Skydive, and Style. The Accuracy category will be centered at Solo’s Manahan Stadium, while the Formation Skydive and Style categories will be done over Solo’s Square and Fort Vastenburg.

The city of Solo has been chosen as arena of the Championship since its air traffic is considered less crowded compared to other major cities such as Bali, Yogyakarta, or Surabaya.

Founded on 18th February 1948, the International Military Sports Council or International Du Sport Militaire (CISM) is one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world. The council organizes various sporting events for the armed forces of the 134 member countries. Instead of battle fields, soldiers and military forces can meet in friendship on the sports playing field through CISM. This is in accordance with the philosophy and the ideals which were set in CISM’s mission statement in 1998, signed by all member countries. The ultimate goal of CISM is to contribute to world peace by uniting armed forces through sports, hence its motto: “Friendship through Sports”.
