The Singapore Zoo houses almost 2,400 animals in its 28 hectares, utilizing an “open zoo” concept that renders enclosures invisible to observers. As a result, displays recreate the animals’ natural habitats as closely as possible—and Instagrammers can take shots of the animals with no bars or cages getting in the way!

Visitors can interact with the animals in numerous kid-friendly ways, from having breakfast with orangutans to helping feed the giraffes to watching the elephant and sea lion shows.

34% of the 300 species sheltered in the zoo are threatened in the wild; a purpose-built Wildlife Healthcare and Research Centre was opened in 2006, reinforcing the Singapore Zoo’s reputation as a global center for conservation and veterinary research.
