On Sunday, 15 June, Garuda Indonesia re launched its daily flights from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Japan. The official ceremony which was held at the International airport was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, HE. Yoshinori Katori.

The daily Garuda Jakarta-Haneda flight uses Airbus A330 aircraft, leaving Jakarta at 13.05 West Indonesia Time, arriving Haneda at 22.35 local time. On the return flight, GA 875 leaves Haneda at 00.30 local time, arriving Jakarta at 06.00 West Indonesia Time, reports Bisnis Indonesia.

On the occasion Garuda President Director, Emirsyah Satar, said that the reopening of this route was a strategic step to expand the airline’s network to Japan, since through codeshare agreement of Garuda Indonesia with ANA (All Nippon Airways), passengers can directly connect to other domestic destinations in Japan, such as to Fukuoka, Saporro and Okinawa. Connections to the United States can also be made through codeshare with Delta Airlines.

The first time Garuda flew from Jakarta to Haneda was on 13 March 1962 departing from Kemayoran Airport, the city’s first airport. The flight made then a transit call at Hong Kong using Lockheed L-118 Electra aircraft, reminisced Emirsyah Satar,

Ambassador Yoshinori Katori, warmly welcomed the new flight, convinced that it provides additional options for improved business and tourism between Indonesia and Japan.

Separately, Garuda VP Corporate Communication explained that Garuda now serves Japan with 39 weekly flights from Bali and Jakarta. . These include the following routes: :Jakarta-Osaka (Kansai), Bali – Osaka (Kansai airport), Jakartai-Tokyo (Narita airport), Bali-Tokyo (Narita), Bali-Tokyo (Haneda airport) and Jakarta-Tokyo (Haneda airport).
