In conjunction with the International Museum Day and forming part of the 487th Anniversary Celebrations of the capital city Jakarta, the Office of Tourism and Culture of Jakarta will host the Jakarta Museum Day Festival 2014 scheduled to take place at the Fatahillah Square, at the Old Batavia complex, on Saturday, 7th June 2014.

“The Festival commemorates the international Museum Day which falls on 18th May and is being held to celebrate the 487th anniversary of Jakarta which falls on 22nd June 2014” stated the Head of the Tourism Office in charge of attractions, Ida Zubaidah, at a press conference held in City Hall on 4th June 2014, reported antaranews.com.

Over 45 museums from all over the metropolitan capital will participate in the festival which will be held from 09.00am to 09.00pm West Indonesia Time. Participating museums will be showing some of their finest collections in next to organizing a series of activities , including: photography competition, booths competition, coloring competition for elementary school students, and the “amazing race” museum exploration competition for students.

Estimated to draw 5000 to 10,000 visitors, the event is aimed to stimulate a sense of pride and love for Indonesia’s long history and legacies.

“Through the Museum Day Festival, museum managements in Jakarta are expected to collaborate to create and implement programs that will raise the pull of museums as tourist destinations and as public education media” , added Ida Zubaidah. .
