In the past few years, Indonesia has greatly improved its infrastructure and increased connectivity among the islands in this sprawling archipelago. The Bali, Lombok, Medan, Makassar and Balikpapan airports and terminals are completely new constructions to cater to the surging demand from domestic and international passengers. Garuda Indonesia has increased flights from China’s Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, as well as from Japan’s Tokyo (Haneda and Narita), and Osaka airports. From Europe Garuda now flies direct to Jakarta from Amsterdam and soon from London, while Lufthansa has resumed its Frankfurt-Jakarta flights. Domestically, Garuda Indonesia also increased its flights connecting tourist resorts with secondary cities by ATR 27-006 turboprop aircraft. In the air, Garuda Indonesia provides Immigration on-board on its flights from China, Japan and Taiwan. Many LCC airlines connect Indonesia’s cities and tourist destinations, both through domestic and international flights and to ASEAN countries and Australia. A new toll road built over the sea now connects Bali’s Ngurah Rai airport with the Nusa Dua Convention Centers. In Jakarta new toll roads criss-cross the capital city and connect with cities on Java and Sumatra through a comprehensive road system.
