Although infrastructure in Laos is less developed than in other ASEAN countries, there has been some progress recently. The highway from Vientiane to Luang Prabang and the northern parts of the country has been upgraded while the Greater Mekong Sub-region East-West Corridor has seen the reconstruction of the road linking the Thai/Laos border to the Laos/Vietnamese border through Savannakhet province. They are two busy international airports in Vientiane Wattay and Luang Prabang, while regional flights also operate from Pakse and Savannakhet airports. Since 2010, a train service directly linking Vientiane’s suburbs to Bangkok via Nong Khai and Udon Thani in Thailand has been in operation.
