The Pinnacle of the Grand Maritime Event of Sail Raja Ampat which was initially scheduled to take place on 21st June 2014 has been rescheduled to 23rd August 2014.

Confirmation of the rescheduled date was given by Governor of West Papua, Abraham Atururi, on Tuesday, 3rd June 2014, as reported by republika.co.id.

Chief of Military Staff Area (Kasdam) XVII Cendrawasih, Brigadier General Hinsa Siburian stated: ”During a meeting on Tuesday morning (3rd June 2014) in Manokwari, the Governor of West Papua has officially announced the rescheduling of Sail Raja Ampat to the month of August”. Meanwhile the Head of Public Relations and Protocol Bureau of West Papua Province, Albert Macpal, stated that the government of West Papua received a notification letter from the national government regarding the rescheduling of the Sail Raja Ampat from 21st June to 23rd August.

“We are taking follow-up measures on this development and we fully understand the decision taken by the national government” said the Regional Secretary of West Papua Province, Drs.Ishak Halatu, as reported cenderawasihpos.com.

The delay will also impact the official opening of the Pekabaran Injil Site on Mansinam Island that was initially scheduled to be opened by the President of the Republic Indonesia to coincide with the opening of the Sail Raja Ampat Festival. The Pekabaran Injil Site comprises the Jesus Christ Monument, the Ottow-Geisler Landing Site, and a Church Building.
