A colorful fashion show and traditional dance performances from Indonesia captivated hundreds of onlookers at the annual York International Festival: A Celebration of Faith and Culture held at Parliament Street, York, England on the last weekend of April (26th -27th April 2014).
Secretary of the Indonesian Embassy in London, Yudho Priambudi Asruchin said that this is the first time that representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in London participated in the festival. Indonesia featured 5 booths including a culinary bazaar (offering scrumptious Sate, Fried Noodles, and Fried Rice), tourist information, art and cultural performances, investment opportunities, a batik workshop, batik bazaar, and other distinct Indonesian handicrafts.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador for the United Kingdom, T.M Hamzah added that the motto of the festival which was Unity in Diversity matched perfectly with Indonesia’s own national motto of Unity in Diversity which unites Indonesia’s many cultures into the Republic of Indonesia.
Bali Dance
Held for the second time, the event is presented by the City of York Council in collaboration with York’s St John University and participated by international communities in and around York. The Festival is aimed to introduce the cultural diversity of the city of York to the general public and to support local communities to be inspired by diverse cultures from around the globe. The York International Festival was highlighted with bazaars, workshops, exhibitions, and art performances from a number of international communities.
The Mayor of York, Councillor Julie Gunnell in her opening remark stated that the main objective of the York International Festival is to increase understanding and the spirit of friendship among the many international communities around Yorkshire. On a special note, the Mayor also expressed her appreciation for the participation of Indonesia in this year’s festival.
